Samantha Marshall. Freelance performer and private teacher.
I’m currently available for gigs and private lessons.
Based in Washington, DC and available for online lessons.
After graduating with a master’s degree in music, I have worked steadily developing a private studio and refining my own practice technique. Over time, I became more fascinated with the concept of catering each lesson to the specific student, prioritizing their interests in a variety of genres and teaching methods.
Musical Background
I spent my college career learning as much as I could about all styles of music. I am well versed in classical music styles from medieval to contemporary, as well as in jazz, brazilian choro, and world music.
Individualization
Everyone learns in a different way. I cherish opportunities to learn to explain concepts in a variety of ways and engage all the senses. I am fluent in visual, audio, and kinetic teaching.
Something for Everyone
We all learn at our own pace. Students of all ages and abilities are welcome, whether you’ve never heard of the flute or you’re looking to refine your sound and technique.
Special Skills
With my extreme proficiency in ear-training and my experience adapting music for colleagues and students over the years, I have become enamored with arranging music. Whether it’s taking a student’s favorite song and making it more accessible to play on their chosen instrument or taking a colleague’s favorite Opera Aria and turning it into a duet, I’ve come to love the art of arranging music.
Today, I teach a variety of students across the United States. Based in Washington, DC, you can hear me perform in Operas, Orchestras, Chamber and Jazz Ensembles, and as a Solo Artist. I collaborate with many virtuosic musicians who play a variety of instruments, so I can provide music for any event or occasion!
