Samantha Marshall is a musician and educator based in the Washington DC area.
Ms. Marshall was introduced to flute at age eight, and quickly became a top performer on the instrument, winning competitions in the National Flute Association Masterclass Competition, Flute Society of Washington’s Young Artist Competition, and was a finalist in the New York Flute Club Competition. Equally at home in the orchestra as well as commercial settings, she has performed with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Handel Society, Pan American Symphony, as well as performing with choro guitarist Richard Boukas, and Broadway/off-Broadway productions throughout New York City. An accomplished soloist, Samantha has performed throughout the United States, notably for Historic Monticello’s 2018 winter festivities, and most recently for the Pan-American Symphony at the Kennedy Center and the Prague Summer Night’s production of Mozart’s “Magic Flute".”
A passionate educator, Ms. Marshall maintains a private studio in the Washington DC area, and has given masterclasses throughout the United States. She has been on faculty at George Mason Community Arts Academy, The Village School, and Blue Ridge Chamber Music camp, working with students from six to adulthood. Current and former students have been accepted to top honor bands throughout the United States.
Ms. Marshall was formerly the host of Charlottesville, Virginia’s WTJU classical radio station. Samantha studied at the University of South Carolina with Jennifer Parker-Harley, and at the Mannes School of Music with Keith Underwood.
Extensions-
Ms. Marshall has extensive Chamber music experience, having founded the Mannes School of Music’s graduate woodwind quintet, 13th Street Winds. While at Mannes, Samantha was the recipient of the Founder’s Award, the highest honor given to graduates of the Mannes School.
As an arranger, Ms. Marshall’s work has been performed at The White House and Vice Presidents residence with the United States Army Band, “Pershing’s Own”, and at the American Trombone Workshop.
Samantha has been heard as a speaker at the University of South Carolina, The New School, and Lincoln Center.
